BELLEVUE, Neb. — Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of right side hitterPayton Fehringer (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2018.
A 5-9 lefty, Fehringer played for coach Sally Moos at Cherry Creek High School, helping lead the Bruins to a runner-up finish at the Colorado State Tournament in Class 5A, the largest class in the state. She recorded 108 kills with 36 digs and 31 blocks during her 2017 senior campaign.
"Payton is a wonderful young lady who will fit nicely into our program full of new players," said Siedlik. "She will provide depth on the rightside, ball control, and a unique style of hitting being a lefty. She is very driven to becoming a better volleyball player and getting her degree from Bellevue University!"
Fehringer currently plays club volleyball for Colorado Volleyball Association (CVA) under coach Dennis Wukovits. She played four seasons for Colorado Momentum Volleyball Club, helping her team qualify for USAV Junior Nationals four-consecutive years.
Fehringer joins six early signees in the 2018 class: 5-11 outside hitter Sierra Athen (Red Oak, Iowa/Red Oak HS), 6-0 middle blocker Sienna Black (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Treynor HS), 5-5 defensive specialist/libero Sidney Craig (Harlan, Iowa/Harlan HS), 5-4 defensive specialist/libero Madi Evans (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), 5-8 setter Olivia Galas (Omaha, Neb./Gross Catholic HS), and 6-1 middle blocker Rosa Reed-Bouley (Omaha, Neb./Gross Catholic HS).
Bellevue finished the 2017 season with a 30-13 overall record, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 10th time in school history after finishing second in the NSAA Post-season Tournament. Bellevue was ranked No. 19 in the final NAIA National Top 25 Poll.
